CIMS members receive 2021 BAFTSS Awards
(11-04-2021)
Three CIMS members were awarded with BAFTSS Awards
Former CIMS member Mario Slugan (now Queen Mary, University of London) received the runner-up award for the Best Monograph 2021 by the BAFTSS/British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies for his book Fiction and Imagination in Early Cinema: A Philosophical Approach to Film History (Bloomsbury, 2020). The jury’s comments: “By using analytic philosophy to question existing categories of fiction and non-fiction in early film via consideration of the role of imagination, Slugan’s book offers a vital and insightful intervention into two previously distinct fields. The author deftly demonstrates his skill as both a historian and a philosopher in this thoroughly engaging rethinking of the experience of early cinema.”
The runner-up award for Best Edited Collection Award 2021 of the BAFTSS was awarded to CIMS members Daniel Biltereyst and Lies Van de Vijver for their collection Mapping Movie Magazines: Digitization, Periodicals and Cinema History(Palgrave, 2020). The jury’s comments: “A fascinating collection that makes use of some wonderful and under-appreciated archives and magazines and provides a clear model for how such resources can be used for future scholarship.”
