Credit Contract (on the basis of a Benelux degree)

You want to enrol for course units on the basis of a Benelux degree (also for promotion of federal officials to level A)

Attention: information about enrolment for course units on the basis of a non-Benelux degree (= international students) you can find here.

What

With a credit contract you can enrol for course units/courses separately.

If you take courses from a program for which you do not (yet) have the diploma that grants you access, then the enrolment for 'separate courses' in credit contract is limited to a maximum of 24 credits per academic year (see below: Admission requirements).

For the course units for which you pass, you will obtain a credit certificate.

Admission Requirements

Check to see if you meet the admission requirements.

Admission requirements on the basis of diploma

Admission requirements for the study programme

You need to meet the admission requirements for the study programme, to which this course unit belongs.
With the exception of the master dissertation, you can be admitted for a course unit, should you not meet the admission requirements of the study programme.
You then need to contact the lecturer-in-charge for a competence assessment. The lecturer will conduct an interview, a test or will evaluate your file.

Specific requirements for the course unit

You also need to meet specific requirements for the course unit.
Check the course specifications of the course unit in the online Study guide.

If there are specific requirements, a preceding assessment from the learning path advisor is required.
The starting competences will also be checked by the lecturer-in-charge.

Language admission requirements

Admission requirements for the study programme

If the study sheet in the Study guide states that access to the course unit is open, you must still meet the language admission requirements for the programme of study to which the course unit belongs.

Specific requirements for the course unit

If the credit sheet in the Study guide states that access to the course unit is closed, you must not only meet the language admission requirements for the program to which the course unit belongs, but also the specific language admission requirements for the course unit, in particular the initial competences of that course unit, mentioned in the credit sheet.

First, there is a mandatory advice from the supervisors of the Monitoraat and the responsible teacher.

The final admission is made by the faculty's curriculum committee.

In practice, admission takes place on the basis of diploma and language requirements together.

Enrolment for courses by federal officials

Promotion to level A

If you work as a statutory federal civil servant, you can in certain cases be promoted to level A (information in Dutch).

Follow 4 courses from a master program at UGent

This promotion to level A is divided into 3 series of tests.

The 2nd set concerns 'evaluation knowledge acquisition'. Candidates who passed series 1 have to take 4 courses - of at least 4 ECTS credits - from a master program at a university or college of higher education.

1 course must be related to law, economics or public finance (information in Dutch) and 3 courses are free to choose, in consultation with the P&O director.

Follow steps for enrolment

Follow all the steps according to the procedure for enrolment
You choose 'separate course units' and create an enrolment for this. After enrolment (and activation of the UGent account) you will be able to indicate the courses you wish to take.

Please note: you must take the course at the faculty that organizes it.

This can be seen from the course code (a letter followed by 6 numbers). The letter with which the course code starts indicates the faculty that organizes the course. The course code can be found on the study sheet of the course.

Define your curriculum

Remember that even in this case, your curriculum is determined by the curriculum committee for each academic year and faculty based on Article 30 of the Education and Examination Code.

Disadvantages

There are a number of disadvantages associated with credit contracts:

  • You always use learning account (information in Dutch), in particular for bridging and preparation programs you use learning account via credit contract but not via diploma contract;
  • You permanently lose your learning account (stopping does not make your learning account up again; only by passing can you earn your learning account back). Tip: if you do want to enrol via credit contract for a second semester course, do this as late as possible (for a second semester course and a year course you can enrol until the last day of February);
  • No double counting of the first 60 credits earned for assembly credit account;
  • No scholarship;
  • Not cheaper than a diploma contract; after all, the tuition is calculated in the same way: a ratio of the number of credits taken.
