Analyzing the microbiome to characterize the spectrum of micro-organisms associated with health and disease.

This lecture is part of the Interdisciplinary Medical and Health Seminars. Guest speaker: Professor John Rossen, Department of Medical Microbiology and Infection Prevention, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, The Netherlands - Department of Pathology, University of Utah School of Medicine, United States of America The microbiome (the pool of genetic material of microbiota) is analysed with next generation sequencing (NGS) to characterize the spectrum of microorganisms present. This spectrum is associated with health and disease. However, the importance for the individual patient and opportunities for therapeutic intervention largely remain to be defined.
