Gender and care

Sara is a PhD student at Ghent University since September 2021, working on the DISCONNECT project around digital well-being and disconnection together with her supervisors Prof. dr. Mariek Vanden Abeele (Dept. of Communication Sciences) and Prof. dr. Ralf De Wolf (Dept. of Communication Sciences).

She has completed a bachelor in African Languages and Cultures and a master’s degree in Conflict and Development studies, both at Ghent University. She specialized in feminist and labor theories through her master’s dissertation on working conditions and structural inequalities for cleaning staff in Flanders. Her aim is to contribute to the research field by combining her academic background with digital well-being studies.

Her approach in research is qualitatively base with an education in ethnographic research, and experience in in-depth interviewing and participatory observation; all methods which she can put to use during her time as a PhD student.
