Content information

Starting level:

You have already followed a course of Italian, but your knowledge is limited to basic elements:

  • Speaking is very difficult: you can only formulate short sentences and your vocabulary is limited to general topics.
  • You understand native speakers only when they speak slowly and clearly.
  • When you read general texts in Italian, you notice that a lot of words and constructions are unfamiliar to you.
  • When you write in Italian, you only formulate short and simple sentences.
  • You know how to use the present tense and the passato prossimo.
  • It is required that you take the brief online test before enrolling. Please find this orientation test on the page of Italian self tests.
During the first class session your teacher will evaluate if the result of the online test may be confirmed. If you are referred to a different level at that stage you can enter that level on condition that sufficient places are still available.

  • Listening skills: : at the end of the course you can understand sentences related to everyday life such as family, work, etc, in short, topics that have a direct and personal impact on you.
  • Speaking skills: at the end of the course you can talk about simple and everyday topics, using simple sentences.
  • Reading skills: at the end of the course you are able to read short and simple texts. You can find information in simple, everyday texts such as advertisements, menus and timetables.
  • Writing skills: the structures which you will acquire, are practised by writing short and simples texts or letters (for example how did you spend the weekend, or how do you thank somebody).
  • Specific grammatical items: the revision of the indicativo presente, il passato prossimo and the personal pronouns. New: the imperfetto, the condizionale, the futuro and the prepositions.
