Content information

Starting level:

  • You already have a thorough intermediate knowledge of English (secondary school level), but you want to improve it.
  • You need a good command of the English language (for work, studies, ...) and you also want to be able to write and speak in more complex situations (e.g.: expressing different nuances).
  • It is required that you take the brief online test before enrolling. This will enable you to register for the course that suits your level best: Practical English 2, 3 or 4. During the first class session your teacher will evaluate if the result of the online test can be confirmed. If you are referred to a different level at that stage you can enter that level on condition that sufficient places are still available.

  • Listening skills: only authentic materials are being used. Attention is also paid to different varieties (for example British English versus American English).
  • Speaking skills: improving the speaking skills is an important objective of this course. Role-plays, class discussions and individual assignments enable the students to speak as much as possible.
  • Reading skills: in the lessons authentic materials are used similar to those with which you will also be faced in daily and professional life or during your studies.
  • Writing skills: practical assignments will give you the opportunity to practise grammatical items and structures as realistically as possible. Attention is also paid to the recognition and use of different styles (formal versus informal). The writing assignments are related to your personal and professional livesas much as possible and enable the teacher to offer individual feedback.
