Content information

Starting level:

  • For Dutch speaking students:
    • You studied English at school, but have not had the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice. You can have a simple conversation and write short texts, but you are not certain of the correct use of the language.
  • For foreign students:
    • You have a good lower-intermediate knowledge of the English grammar, but you have problems speaking and writing fluently and correctly in English.
  • It is required that you take the brief online test before enrolling. This will enable you to register for the course that suits your level best: Practical English 2, 3 or 4. During the first class session your teacher will evaluate if the result of the online test can be confirmed. If you are referred to a different level at that stage you can enter that level on condition that sufficient places are still available.

Objective: see "Content"

  • Listening skills: guided listening exercises with an average degree of difficulty enable you to understand native speakers better.
  • Speaking skills: you learn how to cope with everyday situations in English. Speaking and conversation exercises enable you to practise new vocabulary and grammar. Attention is also paid to pronunciation and intonation.
  • Reading skills: you extend your basic vocabulary and grammar by means of reading materials of average difficulty.
  • Writing skills: practical exercises and relevant writing assignments enable you to further practise grammar and vocabulary in realistic situations. A lot of attention is paid to the correct use of the tenses.
