dr. Heleen Dewitte features in GUM

Heleen Dewitte, post-doctoral fellow in the LGBPP lab was one of the scientists asked by GUM director Marjan Doom and artist Sarah Vanagt to contribute to the piece “Omentum Omentum”, part of the permanent exhibition of the GUM. In this artistic video installation, several UGent researchers predicted the future of their research fields, using ancient prediction practices. As such, by looking at the lines and patterns of a bovine omentum – a large apron-like fold of the peritoneum that covers the intestines – Heleen tried to unravel the future of cancer therapy, discussing the importance of interdisciplinary research to tackle this multifaceted and complex disease.
