Target group
Doctoral candidates active in a collaborative research project (i.e. a project where you actively collaborate with a non-academic partner) are invited to apply
• Within the Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS) project across all of the Welsh Universities, Wales,UK
• Affiliated to the Industrial Doctoral School (IDS) Umeå University, Sweden
• Candidates from Ghent University, Belgium, engaged in a collaborative research project (e.g. Baekeland mandaten)
• Candidates from the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic
• Candidates from the University of Aveiro, Portugal
Application
- Your application must consist of:
A. An abstract (max one page) describing your research and the partner company/organization that you collaborate with. This abstract should be the basis for your poster
B. A motivation letter expressing why you should be given the opportunity to join the workshop
C. Your CV and if possible your list of publications

Method and aim
Within the framework of experiential learning you will work individually and in groups to develop your career as a young researcher. During the workshop you will experience and enhance strengths and knowledge on how to make a good poster, abstract writing and research integrity. You will have opportunities to meet with departments or researchers in your field at Umeå University to discuss research and create your own network. You will also visit a research intensive company in North Sweden. The workshop will give you time for personal reflection, individual development and network building together with doctoral candidates from several universities.

- From Sunday 13 May till Friday 18 May 2018, hosted by the University of Umeå (Sweden)
Registration procedure
Ghent University will select 2 students who can participate in the spring school. Only researchers who collaborate with a non-academic partner (e.g. industry) are eligible. Candidates are required to send a motivation letter (co-signed by their supervisor) in which they indicate why they want to participate (added value) and present their collaborative research project.

Registration fee
Free of charge for the members of the Doctoral Schools. The full cost of the workshop, incl. travel and accommodation costs (approx. 1500 EUR) will be charged for cancellations without valid reason after 31 March 2018.

Evaluation methods and criteria (doctoral training programme)
Non-periodic continuous assessment; 100% participation. The participants are required to bring a poster (for the poster session).
