Cameron Dierendonck

Information

Mathieu Balcaen

Cameron joined the PaInT research group in October 2020. He obtained his MSc degree in bioscience engineering: catalytic technology at KU Leuven in June 2018. His MSc thesis focussed on the development of thin film nanocomposite nanofiltration membranes. During his MSc thesis, Cameron spent 3 months at the Zuckerberg institute for Water Research, part of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Israel where the primary focus was on desalination applications. In January 2019, Cameron joined InOpSys NV where he worked as R&D scientist responsible for the implementation of membrane technology for industrial wastewater treatment cases of various pharmaceutical and chemical companies. Next, in March 2020, Cameron worked as scientific collaborator at the KU Leuven department of Biosystems for 6 months focussing on the development of microfluidic devices for biosensing applications.

His current research focusses on the development of lab and pilot scale membrane fractionation methods for drinking water applications. The goal is to investigate the contributions of the different fractions towards microbial stability and desinfection byproduct formation in drinking water. His research is conducted in the context of the FWO-SBO project ‘Biostable’, a collaboration between all Flemish drinking water companies, Aquaflanders, the Flemish Environmental Agency (VMM), the Agency for Healthcare (AZ&G), B-IWA, Vlakwa, CAPTURE and four research laboratories from Ghent University (PaInT, CMET, EnVOC and BIOMATH).

In his spare time, Cameron enjoys cycling, hiking, nature, basketball, (board)games and spending time with friends.
