Solutions for the environmental impact of animal farming

Air quality is a key priority for policy makers and administrators who grant permits for agricultural stables.

The effect of the agricultural sector on air quality is caused by the emission of acidifying substances (NH3, SO2, NH3), greenhouse gasses, volatile organic compounds (some of them are causing offensive odours) and emission of airborne particulate matter.

We analyse the interaction of volatile odorous organic compounds with particulate matter, we calculate emission rates, study the odour nuisance and evaluate the performance of existing air and new pollution abatement techniques which can eliminate the odour nuisance observed by local residents.

Platform VEMIS brings together stakeholders in industrial farming to define research priorities and to find solutions for the environmental impact of animal farming.
